Davis, Albert, 1995-06-01
Scope and Contents
The files in the "Survivors series" contain witness accounts from survivors of the Holocaust/WWII that are located in Connecticut, the United States, and overseas. These accounts are mostly found in newspaper clippings from various presses like; the Jewish Ledger, the Hartford Courant, and The New York Times. Some of these accounts are briefly written in a biography/letter format. An account by Bronia Hacker (international) gives her account on escaping a concentration camp with the help of her father. Another account from Chaim Engel and Selma Wynberg (Connecticut residents) on how they escaped the death camp Sobibor and were two of the 45 inmates to survive, out of 350,000 Jews that were killed there. There are also Photocopies of photos of the survivors and their relatives found in this series, along with contemporary artifacts from 1930-1950 like; a pin from the Jewish Police, or an original marriage certificate from the Bergen-Belson Concentration Camp after liberation.
