Abstract
R. Philip Rose (1899-19 ) came to America from Russia at the age of three. His father was a Talmudic teacher. He married Rebecca Cole, a sculptor.
Rose worked at the Hartford Courant for 45 years, completing his tenure as News Editor. He had joined the Courant staff in 1920 as a reporter, subsequently becoming Assistant City Editor, Sunday Editor, State Editor, and News Editor. Throughout the years he earned the respect of his colleagues for his kindness and the quality of his work.
Following his retirement, Rose was notable for his volunteer work; at the Hartford Hospital he donated so many hours as a volunteer that he became the first man elected to the membership of the Women's Auxiliary.
This collection will aid anyone interested in Jewish members of the news media, particularly the Hartford Courant.
