Historical Note
Founded by 16 families in 1951, the Jewish Community of Greater Windsor as it was then known, held services and religious classes at homes, local churches, a Masonic Temple, a bank and a school until its own building was completed on Palisado Avenue in 1960 in an historic residential area. In the 1970s, the Conservative synagogue Beth Ahm had 120 families and its religious school held double sessions. Affiliates included a sisterhood, a men’s club, a United Synagogue Youth chapter, Kadimah, a junior congregation and a 55 and over group for seniors. The synagogue was expanded and remodeled in 1979. In June 2018, the synagogue merged with Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor. The rabbis of the synagogue over the years include Rabbi Barukh Katz, Rabbi Kenneth Greene, Rabbi Mark Raphael, Rabbi Larry Kaplan, Rabbi Miriam Spitzer, Rabbi Barukh Schechtman, Rabbi Gary Kreditor, and Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz.
