#488 “Hidden Child” 8/11/93- Charlotte Berman Interviews Paulette Terwilliger of West Hartford. Pregnant with Paulette in Paris, France in 1942-Rose Frost, her mother, found out that her husband max and her father in law had been arrested by police and Nazis when they found forged ID papers. Alone in Paris when she left hospital with baby paulette, she contacted friends who tipped her off to farmers in country who would hide them. Paulette’s father escaped and found baby and mother. After routine and frequent “searches for Jews in Roundup” Paulette’s parents had to leave her in a convent in that town. After 2.5 years the war was over. Nothing to eat in paris. Went to south America and later returned to Paris. Paulette later came to US and now teaches in Renbrook School (French) where she lectures to class about the Holocaust. She is shocked that many students have never heard of the Holocaust.
