Kantor, Rita_1992/06/23, Oral History, June 23, 1992
Scope and Contents
Discusses life in Russia/Moldova as a Jew-antisemitism, early death of parents causing trauma. Raising daughter in face of anti-semitism. Red hair apparently is a marker of Jewishness in Russia, which her daughter had. Husband faced discrimination finding employment because he was clearly Jewish-government sanctioned anti-semitism.
Jew as nationality more than religion-didn't get as much passed down because of lack of parents but still felt strong Jewish identity. Engaged more with religious side after immigrating to the United States, but still doesn't consider herself to be religious. Left Russia because they knew their daughter wouldn't have opportunities.
