Hyman, Louis_1968, Oral History, October, 1968
Scope and Contents
This interview covers Hyman's life as a weaver in Shisluwitz(?) and Bialystock, his immigration to join his parents in North Daktota, and his move to Hartford to join his wife's family who settled there. He also discusses his involvement in peddling and wholesaling, as well as his participation in the Jewish community at the Garden Street Synogogue and through oxies. His parents made Aliyah sometime before 1914, fulfilling the dream they had when Hyman's father initially left Europe.
Some parts are unclear due to some breaks in the transcription due to the transcriber not understanding what was being said. Also some Yiddish phrases are used.
Name of birthplace is unclear and may be spelled wrong. This spelling comes straight from the transcription but does not seem to point to an actual location that can be looked up. Also, name record placed the birthplace as Italy, however nothing in the record supports this.
