Aferiat, Sophia, 2004

Sophia Aferiat was born in 1936 in Slomniki, Poland, and escaped the Holocaust because she and her mother were mistaken for goyim. They survived the war, and Sophia emigrated to Israel when she was 19. After eight years she came to the United States, settled in West Hartford and worked in a factory. She worked in G. Fox, as a hairdresser, and then established a beauty salon in West Hartford Center in 1982.
